I just read a good article on The New York Times website about 'the paradox of the modern runway' - we have so much information thrown at us about a brand or the designer, but rarely does anyone notice or appreciate the details or work behind the items, especially when models strut down a catwalk at the same pace of an F1 car. Just another sad reminder that less people are appreciating quality craftsmanship these days.

On another note, I received my boots and my leather pants earlier this week. I am absolutely in love with the boots and will post some photos tonight. The leather pants, on the other hand, complete waste of money! I might eBay them and see if anyone will bite but they just made my bum looks so flat and gaped at the waist band. They'd probably be alright with some altering but I am a bit over them already!

London has been declared as the world's top fashion capital of 2011, and this has only served to remind me how much I love this city! I'm heading back over at the end of the year for a few days between spending Christmas in Glasgow with my family (where I call "home"), and then Paris for NYE with my parents as that is where they live. Fingers crossed for the right amount of snow, enough to be romantic, but not to be snowed in or out! I have trains to catch! I've been flirting with the idea of moving back over to Europe lately, either London to look for similar work as to what I am doing in Australia or going to learn French full time in Paris. The only thing holding me back is my job, I love my little work family too much! Some decisions that should be so easy are often the hardest!

For those of you who are unaware of the YSL Vs. Christian Louboutin court case, Louboutin issued a court injunction in attempt to prevent YSL from producing shoes with red soles. However, as of Wednesday 10th August, the injuction was denied as "Judge Victor Marrero said Louboutin wasn't able to prove that its red soles deserve trademark protection."

Susan Scafidi, director of Fordham University's Fashion Law institute told WWD, "Louboutin stands to lose so much. This is identity theft for him. Those red soles are almost as recognisable as his name. The philosophical question is, if it doesn't have a red sole, is it a Louboutin? If the shoe has house designs on it, yes, but the question is, will the public see it that way?"

What do you think? Although its undeniable that Louboutin makes amazingly beautiful shoes, I think a significant percentage of the business must come from people who buy them purely for that famous red sole. The main thing that bothers me is that this is skirting on a very serious issue - can colour be 'owned'? If Louboutin loses this, what does that mean for other brand-colour associations - Tiffany Blue, Hermes orange, Dairy Milk purple? How will this hurt the heritage & integrity of the brand?
